FOR HOMESCHOOLERS

A little extra explanation for learning at home

Learning at home often means moving between reading, explaining and independent practice. dorKk provides pre-recorded CAPS-aligned video support in English and Afrikaans for Grades 1–12. Use the lessons alongside your chosen curriculum materials and learning plan when a learner needs another explanation, a topic recap or more time with a method.

A LITTLE EXTRA SUPPORT

How dorKk can help

Build around your existing learning plan

Use your curriculum provider’s materials or your own teaching plan to decide the order of study. Match that topic to the dorKk subject guide rather than assuming the catalogue sequence is your full teaching schedule. The module index helps you identify relevant explanations and gaps to revisit.

Support independent learning

Let the learner attempt a question before watching an explanation. Pause at a useful point and ask them to describe the next step. After the video, try a different question and discuss how the method carries across. Younger learners may need a parent or facilitator beside them.

Keep revision focused

A simple notebook can record the topic, a difficult step and a question to revisit. Review those notes together at the end of the week. Use the public revision and homework resources to plan manageable sessions and keep the learner responsible for their own work.

A practical way to get started

  1. Start with your home learning plan and identify the topic needing support.

  2. Open the matching grade and subject catalogue in English or Afrikaans.

  3. Check lesson access in the app and pair the explanation with your existing exercises.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

An example of a focused home study session

If a learner is struggling with function notation, ask them to substitute a value first. Work through the public explanation together, check a worked example and then let the learner attempt the practice question before opening its solution.

Questions you might have

Is dorKk a homeschool curriculum provider or school?

dorKk is a supplementary learning resource, not an online school or qualification-awarding institution. Use it alongside the curriculum materials, assessment arrangements and teaching support you have chosen.

Do the catalogues include both languages?

There are separate English and Afrikaans catalogues. Subject and lesson availability can differ, so check your grade and subject in the coverage table and confirm current videos in the app.

Can a home education organisation integrate the lessons?

Contact dorKk to discuss institutional licensing. A personal subscription or public lesson-title list does not automatically include permission to embed or redistribute videos.
